Customer Reviews

Customer Review: My Toro personal pace mower has been past due on replacing the blade. When I came across this mulched made for it I decided to give it a try and glad I did.Out of the box I compared it side by side to the old Oregon blade and found:⁃ Same size, with 3 holes the same – no issues with fit or install⁃ Thick strong steel body (vs old blade), with same weight⁃ 3 serrated teeth on each blade side vs 2 (oregon). The new blade teeth were longer and distinct for mulching.⁃ Well balanced with protective finish for durability and corrosionThe mower ran great with no wobble or vibration. The 3 serrated teeth were an improvement allowing the grass cut into finer pieces. I noticed a moe even cut and no clumps, ripped grass or clippings left on the lawn or in the bagger when attached.Overall I’m very pleased with this blade and would definitely purchase in the as replacement. It’s made of quality material, performs exceptionally well, should hold its edge, and has a reasonable price point. I highly recommend anyone in the market for a new blade to consider it.

Customer Review: The price for these QWD Gator-style blades is $23.99, considerably less than $61.99 that I had been paying elsewhere. Gator-style blades have teeth on both the front and back edge, which gives the blade more cutting power and makes it more effective at mulching grass. The teeth on the back edge of gator blades are typically sharp and pointy like alligator teeth. These teeth help lift the grass so it can be cut more evenly. If you are forgetful or have no experience with gator blades, here’s a tip. When installing gator blades, the upturned, serrated teeth should point up, towards the mower deck. The flat, smooth side of the blade should face down toward the grass. These QWD blades are very heavy and seem to be well made. The teeth on the QWD blades seem different – more squared off and not as tapered as I’ve seen on actual Gator blades. However, this doesn’t seem to have much effect on the performance.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Ordered this for my Craftsman walk behind mower, just based on it being a 21” blade, and the product listing saying it’s for Craftsman. I initially thought it didn’t fit because the hole in the blade seemed larger than the bolt to attach it. So I went back to the product listing with the model number this time, and the product details only list Husqvarna and AYP models. I later found AYP is “All Yard Products,” who apparently manufactured Craftsman (and other brands) at some point. But I assumed it was the wrong size just from what I’d seen and put the old blade back on.Fast forward a few days and I took it out to mow. I heard a clunk when I started it, and knowing that a.) the blade had previously been installed upside down (this was a hand-me-down), and b.) it appeared to be off the alignment pins, I thought I’d better shut it off and check. Sure enough, it had come off the pins again, and in trying to retighten it, I realized it didn’t really align with the pins that well. Then I started looking at the other parts of the assembly, and realized it probably was some universal blade that didn’t fit right.I never sent the other blade I ordered back because I didn’t want to pay the shipping, and thought maybe I could find a way to make that work, and gave it another shot. Well, with all the parts from the other blade kit removed (which I thought was just how it was supposed to be), this blade fits perfect. The reason I thought the hole was too big is because the hole on the mower side actually has a collar, and there was a part from the other blade kit fit around that. Took that off and the new blade seated perfectly on the collar, and lined up with the pins.Ran the mower, relieved now knowing it has the right blade on it. First mow of the year, so didn’t go through a lot of grass, but did hit some patches of dead dry leaves leftover from the fall that it absolutely obliterated. Given the previous blade had been cutting on the blunt-side this whole time and was otherwise totally jerry-rigged to the mower, I expect to see a major performance improvement with this new one.

Customer Review: This replacement mulching blade is a perfect fit for my old Crafstman lawnmower. It bolts right up and has the appropriate bends and support rails to ensure proper function. It has a nice thick paint coating over 100% of the blade for protection from elements and whatever you may accidentally run over, so it should hold up to heavy work. The price is really a good deal and the hardness of this blade is quite nice.Just like any new mower blade, I will be taking a file to polish up the cutting edge for a cleaner cut, as mower blades never come sharp enough for me. This one may take a few more minutes to edge and balance, but thats how I like it.It is a well made hunk of metal designed to get the job done. My last blade lasted years, but now it has been sharpend enough times it is pretty light. This blade is quite heavy and feels like it will definitely pass my durability needs.A mower blade is as good as you make it. This blade is going to be awesome once I slap it in the bench vice.I am very happy with this product. I am still waiting for the grass to finish growing out this spring so I can make my yard beautiful again.

Complete Buying Guide for Craftsman Lawn Mower Blades

Essential Factors We Consider

When selecting the best Craftsman lawn mower blades, we evaluate several critical factors: compatibility with your specific mower model, blade type (mulching, high-lift, standard), center hole configuration (bow-tie, star, circle), material quality, and customer feedback. Compatibility is non-negotiable—mismatched blades cause vibration, poor cuts, and potential damage. Always verify your current blade’s OEM number or physical dimensions before ordering. Material matters too; forged steel offers superior durability versus stamped sheets. Finally, consider your lawn’s density and terrain—thicker grass demands high-lift or mulching designs.

Budget Planning

You don’t need to spend over $30 for decent blades. Most reliable options range from $15–$25 per blade, especially when bought in pairs. While OEM dealer blades may cost $50+, third-party equivalents deliver comparable performance at a fraction of the price. Remember: buying cheap, flimsy blades often leads to frequent replacements and uneven cuts. Invest wisely—quality blades save time, fuel, and frustration in the long run. For riding mowers, factor in two blades per set; for walk-behinds, one suffices unless you’re prone to accidents.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right Craftsman lawn mower blades transforms your mowing experience. Whether you prioritize mulching efficiency, cross-brand flexibility, or rugged durability, today’s market offers solutions for every need and budget. From the premium Grasscool 42″ deck blade to versatile QWD and Maxpower options, our top picks reflect real-world testing and user satisfaction. Pair the right blade with regular maintenance—like cleaning under the deck and checking blade balance—and your lawn will reward you with greener, healthier growth year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often should I replace Craftsman lawn mower blades?

A: Replace blades every 20–25 hours of use, or annually if used seasonally. Look for visible nicks, dullness, or warping. If your mower starts vibrating excessively or cutting unevenly, it’s likely time.

Q: Can I mix different blade types on the same mower?

A: No—mixing blade styles (e.g., one mulching and one standard) causes imbalance, increased vibration, and poor cut quality. Always replace blades in matched pairs for riding mowers or singles for walk-behinds.

Q: What’s the difference between mulching and standard blades?

A: Mulching blades have curved, high-lift designs and sometimes serrated edges that chop grass finely and return nutrients to the soil. Standard blades drop clippings onto the lawn surface.

Q: Do I need special tools to install Craftsman lawn mower blades?

A: Basic socket wrenches or box-end wrenches suffice for most installations. Some models benefit from a blade removal tool, but it’s not mandatory. Always disconnect spark plug first!

Q: Are aftermarket blades safe to use?

A: Yes—many reputable brands produce high-quality aftermarket blades that meet or exceed OEM standards. Just ensure they match your mower’s specifications and use verified sellers.

In conclusion, upgrading your Craftsman lawn mower blades is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to improve your lawn’s health and your mowing efficiency. Whether you’re tackling a small backyard or maintaining a larger property, choosing the right blade ensures cleaner cuts, reduced engine strain, and a more enjoyable mowing experience.
